A+ Handyman
Trim separates at the corners. A deck board goes soft in one spot. A door that closed fine in March catches in July. None of it happens overnight, and all of it is cheaper the year you notice it than the year after.
We do carpentry across Winchester and Frederick County — repairs, replacements and the finish work that makes new wood look like it was always there.
Trim and moulding. Baseboard, casing, crown, chair rail and shoe. Mitred properly at the corners so the joints don’t open up in the first dry winter.
Doors. Interior and exterior units, replacements, re-hanging, planing a door that sticks, new hardware, thresholds and weatherstripping. The door that only catches in summer is a frame problem, not a door problem, and we’ll tell you which one you have.
Windows. Repair, sash and unit replacement, sills, casing and trim.
Built-ins and shelving. Closets, pantries, bookcases, benches, and the awkward alcove nobody has ever known what to do with.
Stairs and railings. Treads, risers, balusters, handrails and the newel post that has been loose since you moved in.
Repair first. Soft or split boards replaced, joists and ledger inspected, popped fasteners reset, wobbly railings made solid again. Most decks that look finished need a few boards and a day, not a rebuild.
Railings and stairs. Rebuilt to hold, and at the height code expects.
Porches. Columns, posts, ceilings, floors and the trim that takes the weather first.
Cleaned and refinished. We pressure wash it, let it dry properly, then stain or paint. In that order — sealing a damp or dirty deck is why so many of them peel a season later.
Almost every carpentry call we get outside starts with water. Soffit and fascia behind a leaking gutter. A column base that has been sitting in a puddle for three winters. Door trim that was never caulked. Window sills that hold water instead of shedding it.
We cut out what has gone, replace it with new material, prime it on all sides, and paint it — because bare wood outdoors is a repair with a countdown on it.
If we find it while we’re doing something else, we’ll show you and tell you what it costs. Small now beats structural later, every time.
A+ Handyman has been in business 28 years and I’ve been in the trade 42. Class A contractor, VA licence #2705161701, Frederick County #24352, insured and bonded through Erie, and voted Best Handyman in the Winchester Star ten years running.
Carpentry is where most of us started, and it’s the trade that makes the others look finished. The same crew does the drywall, the paint and the trim, so nobody hands you off at the point where it starts to show.
