Gutter Cleaning in Winchester, VA

A+ Handyman mascot

Gutters are the cheapest thing on your house to maintain and the most expensive to ignore.

A clogged gutter doesn’t overflow neatly over the front edge. It backs up under the shingles, soaks the fascia, runs down inside the wall, and finishes at the foundation — where the repair stops being a ladder and a Saturday.

We clean, repair and replace gutters across Winchester and Frederick County. Twice a year is right for most houses here. Once, if you’re lucky and there are no trees.

What we do

Cleaning. Gutters and downspouts cleared by hand, debris hauled away, downspouts flushed and checked for flow. We don’t leave a pile of it in your beds.

Repair. Resealing seams and end caps, re-pitching runs that hold water, replacing hangers and spikes that pulled loose, reattaching sections that have separated.

Downspouts and drainage. Extensions, elbows, underground tie-ins, and moving the outlet away from the foundation — which is usually the actual problem.

Guards and covers. Fitted properly to the roof edge. We’ll also tell you honestly when they aren’t worth it for your particular trees.

Fascia and soffit. Rotted board behind a gutter is the most common thing we find, and the part most cleaning-only outfits leave for you to discover later. We repair and paint it while the gutter is already down.

Replacement. New gutters and downspouts when repair no longer makes sense.

Why fall and spring, and why it matters here

Valley houses take oak and maple leaf drop through November, then grit and shingle sand all winter. A gutter that was clean in September is usually holding water by February, and water sitting against fascia through a freeze is what turns a $200 job into a rotted board and a soffit repair.

I once got called out for two ceiling fan installs and noticed the front door frame needed paint. I told the customer what would happen if it didn’t get done. A year later, a plumbing call — the frame was rotting, he still didn’t want it touched. Nine months after that, water in the basement: ceiling, wall, trim, carpet. $7,500 in damage from something a $200 repair would have stopped three years earlier, plus $2,800 more for the door and framing.

Gutters do exactly the same thing, just further up the wall.
