The year was 1998 in a small Colorado mountain called Leadville. I worked for a contractor doing handyman and home improvement work. After a short time, and many customer complaints regarding his absence and inability to return their calls, I spoke with him regarding their issues. I offered my opinion on how to resolve the issues, considering I was the one who was in contact with the customers. His response was, “If you think you are so smart, why don’t you have your own business?” I thought about it and replied, “good point, consider this my 2-week notice.” Three seconds later I was dismissed of my duties for this reason.
I went home, called the newspaper to run an ad and I printed homemade business cards, and I was off and running. The contractor went out of business 3 months later, after all, it is a “small town”, and the name A+ Handyman spread like wildfire. In 2000 a family situation forced me to move back to the Winchester area. The scenery has changed but A+ has stayed the same.
From the beginning, I believed in and built the business on great customer service, being dependable, doing quality work and offering those services at reasonable rates. It is these culture points that have made us the company we are today.
